Award-winning Australian artist Meg Washington releases her highly anticipated fifth studio album called “GEM” on Friday, August 8. Ahead of its arrival is the latest single lifted from it today titled “Fine” featuring the iconic Paul Kelly. Both the album and single are released through Meg's label Batflower Records via ORiGiN Recordings.
Fans of both the ARIA Award-winning artists know that Meg and Paul share a bond that has brought them together on stage and screen for many years. Their latest collaboration marks another special moment worth celebrating in Australian music. Speaking on the track Paul shares, “Fine is a beautiful, uplifting song and it’s always a pleasure singing with Meg”.
Meg added, “Paul and I first performed the song together at my Forum show in Melbourne last year on December 21 ‘Gravy Day’. It felt natural for Paul to sing it with me. It’s a hymnal affirmation, written as a round; a set of overlapping sections. It came from wanting to sing what I wanted to happen.”
Written by Meg, “Fine” was recorded and produced by Ben Edgar (Dope Lemon, Matt Corby, Angus & Julia Stone). A choral rendition of the song was featured in Meg and her partner Nick Waterman’s 2024 hit feature film, ’How To Make Gravy’ sung by a men’s choir and Brendan Maclean, it won the 2025 AACTA Award for “Best Original Song”.
On the upcoming GEM album Meg says, “This album is a message in a bottle; a record detailing the years I spent quietly alone on a deserted tropical island. Or was that a dream? It came from looking inward. It’s about finding something very precious within yourself. I’ve called it ‘GEM’, which is my name in reverse.”

Her song “Fine” won the 2025 AACTA Award for “Best Original Song” for the movie ‘How To Make Gravy’ which she wrote and produced.
