Today, Naarm/Melbourne-based, internationally acclaimed duo SHOUSE unveil their long-awaited debut album, Collective Ecstasy, out now via Hell Beach / ONELOVE. A 13-track compendium of dancefloor-ready mastery - uniting summery house and Baeleric tones, electronic pop, funk-laiden rhythms, all the way to the depths of the club - the record is the ultimate tribute to the euphoria that stems from shared dancefloor experiences.
Having already made a huge impact on the global dance scene, SHOUSE’s debut record is reflective of the community and tight knit family you make in the SHOUSE world. Collective Ecstasy, created almost entirely in Naarm/Melbourne, brings together bursts of brass, intimate moments from studio jams and contributions made by friends across the world. Their always-emotive vocals capture the feeling of shared joy that comes from being lost in the moment with those around you.
Fresh off the success of their returning RISING Communitas show, SHOUSE will bring Collective Ecstasy to dancefloors across the country with a four-date headline tour. The run includes one unmissable hometown performance at Naarm/Melbourne’s Northcote Theatre on 30 August, where the duo will debut a full live show performance of Collective Ecstasy in all its emotional and sonic depth. Surrounding this, SHOUSE will deliver a series of immersive DJ sets, bringing their signature euphoric energy to Eora/Sydney’s Paddington United Church on 22 August, Meanjin/Brisbane’s What’s Golden on 23 August, and Whadjuk/Perth’s ICF Warehouse on 1 November.
SHOUSE on their debut album - “This album is a document of the last five years of our lives, of voices and bodies coming together. From many late night sessions deep in Melbourne, to connecting with new friends around the world. Human, musical and alive - experiments in Collective Ecstasy. The sound of real people making musical connections in real time. Songs to sing. Songs to dance to.”
The album opens with single “Call My Name”, its bold harmonies and deep basslines emerging and rising, crafting moments of tension and release, propelling the contributions of over a dozen local artists (including Jace XL, members of North East Party House and Allysha Joy, among others). Purposeful from start to finish, “Call My Name” is soon backed by the paced up keys and electrifying string crescendos of “Believe In Us”. Before long, we move into euro dance territory where new single “Only You” with Cub Sport thrives, framed by the entrancing, loved up harmonies of Tim Nelson, crooning - “only you can love me like you do.”
SHOUSE on their collab with Cub Sport: “Only You" is a moment of devotion in our album. A deep breath, a secret whispered in your ear. Tim from Cub Sport brought such care and intimacy to the song, it became a quiet ode to personal connection, to the people we hold close.” Tim Nelson, of Cub Sport says: “We’ve been such big fans of the guys’ work for many years, so this is a really special collab for us. “Whisper” invites fellow Naarm collaborators Habits, with their quintessential syncopating drum pad hits and gritty, club-ready textures, highlighting the euphoria of the depths of the club, while “Sunrise” transports to higher places with sun-kissed nylon guitar, warm trumpets and Balaeric touches, honouring the dancefloor sweet spot right before dawn. A moment of reprieve arrives on the smooth “Think I’m Thinking” with No/Me, enlisting a softened funk and psychedelic blueprint with sultry vocals, before international mega-house hit “Love Tonight” honours the beginnings of SHOUSE’s global impact today. “Without You” with Rachel Raggart holds dizzying vocal melodies and a catchy hook speaking that captures the push and pull of post-love emotions, “Into It” ventures back into darkened club realms paired with sexy, ethereal vocals, meanwhile the euphoric rises and falls on mammoth offering, “Slow Road” featuring the Yacht Rock styling of Dandelion Head, soon ease into acoustic whispers of “Sunrise (Reprise)”.
The major choral moments that underpin SHOUSE’s indelible signature return on mega single, “Won’t Forget You”, transporting right back to the isles of the Mediterranean, before album closer and most recent release “Wherever You Are” with ARIA Award-winning artist Vance Joy trades the dancefloor for something more intimate, a tender lullaby for the ones we miss, the moments that linger and the promise that love can reach across any distance - all wrapped up in a dreamy mix that floats somewhere between electronica, folk and choral soul.
Collective Ecstasy has been teased by a slew of singles, each framing a landmark year for SHOUSE and racking up their own praise from local and international tastemakers alike. SHOUSE are Jack Madin and Ed Service; a New Zealand and Australian duo who were still working their day jobs - Service as an arts community manager and Madin as a primary school teacher - when their global sensation “Love Tonight” exploded in early 2021, propelled by years of widespread international DJ support. The single landed in the Top 10 in over 20 countries, earning Platinum certification in both the USA and UK, 3x Platinum in Australia and Diamond status in France, accumulating over 1 billion streams in its wake and announcing the emergence of a new global reaching Australian talent. Going on to complete a trilogy of tracks akin to the “Love Tonight’ universe, the duo now share their long-awaited full-length project years in the making.
