Meg Washington the four-time ARIA Award-winning singer-songwriter, masterful storyteller, and the voice of Calypso on Bluey today has released her highly anticipated fifth studio album titled “GEM”, available on all platforms here through Meg's label Batflower Records via ORiGiN Recordings.
GEM is Meg’s first album of original material in five years - an intimate, future-facing record created in collaboration with producer Ben Edgar (Dope Lemon, Matt Corby, Angus & Julia Stone). She’s called it GEM, her name in reverse, insisting on beauty even in the face of darkness. The album explores nature, creativity, and self-determination through shimmering, guitar-spangled arrangements and deeply personal lyricism. The album includes the acclaimed latest single “Fine” featuring icon Paul Kelly and the tracks “Kidding” and “Shangri-La” both each accompanied by stunning music videos.
Meg shares, “This album is a message in a bottle; a record detailing the years I spent quietly alone on a deserted tropical island. Or was that a dream? It came from looking inward. It’s about finding something very precious within yourself.”
In celebration Meg has been touring the country since last month with shows continuing throughout this year here and today in addition is announcing three extra specials shows for in Melbourne (10th October - MPAC, Monash University), Brisbane (25th October - QPAC Playhouse) and Sydney (7th November - City Recital Hall). Accompanied by full band these one-night-only performances in each city will bring GEM to life alongside beloved fan favourites like How to Tame Lions, Skeleton Key and Lazarus Drug. Expect rich, cinematic arrangements and intimate, stripped-back moments woven throughout the set.
