Australian alt-pop artist Jett Blyton has released his anticipated first single for 2026 titled “American Heartthrob,” marking the start of a fresh chapter following a massive past year that recently had him selected as NME ‘100 Essential Emerging Artists for 2026’.

At just 19, the Canberra-born singer has been steadily building serious momentum, known for his low, unmistakable vocal tone, genre-blurring alt-pop sound, and songwriting that swings between playful and deeply introspective. His 2025 double EP project Double Vision Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, which included the TikTok viral track ‘Apeshit’ all helped cement that reputation, introducing a world of contrast - from bright, hook-heavy pop, to darker more experimental territory.

The new single, “American Heartthrob,” leans into even more unfiltered, emotionally honest space. It explores jealousy, competitiveness, and the uncomfortable thoughts most people don’t say out loud - but definitely feel.

American heartthrob is really about dissecting jealousy and the ugliness it projects,” Jett says. “I’ve always been a competitive person and the sorest loser. I’m sure it’s fine in small doses, but in relationships and friendships, it’s a nightmare. That’s a common theme throughout the whole project, and I’m super excited to share the stories that are more antagonistic and rooted in the things I probably shouldn’t say, but everyone thinks.”

His steady rise hasn’t gone unnoticed from landing spots in the Triple J Unearthed High Yearbook for both 2023 and 2024, picking up a nomination for the Music ACT Music Awards (MAMAs), and shoutouts from pop heavyweights like Sabrina Carpenter and Tove Lo, further boosting his profile as one of Australia’s most exciting emerging pop exports.

“American Heartthrob” marks the beginning of a long-form project for the year, drawing inspiration from 2000s icons like The All-American Rejects and Imogen Heap, while continuing to build Jett’s distinctive pop identity and growing global fanbase.
